SMS Of Tuesday 8 September 2009

* MY fellow citizens, I am one of those that struggle to get a proper roof over my head. Inasmuch as we believe that we have a right to land, let’s be cognisant that we also have a responsibility to uphold our rule of law in that we can only occupy an erf through proper allocation. Let’s not be misled by union leaders to believe otherwise. What would happen to our country if the law is brushed aside? What about those that bought erven legitimately?

Food For Thought* IT will take a long time for Namibians to understand that elections are not about race, tribe and history. But they are about learning from the past to make the right policy choice for our country’s future.- Kamati * WEDNESDAY is the last opportunity for the public to give their input at the NC on the Communications Bill. Please make sure we attend in large numbers so that amendments can be justly and correctly done.Politics* CONSIDERING our population, does Namibia really need 72 MPs? Is it justifiable or is it way of rewarding the ‘comrades’ at the expense of the taxpayers?* PLEASE, let’s be factual! Who tells people to put on Swapo colours when commemorating national days? Is it Swapo, the GRN or the people themselves? Freedom of choice, association and expression is what we always preach. Let it also apply in this case. It’s not a secret that it’s Swapo who liberated this country. Leave Swapo in peace. – U2, Ongwediva * HOW should we in the South interpret the Swapo Party list? Lucia Basson 56, Willem Konjore 67, Ida Hoffman 71, Hansina Christiaan 72, Marlene Mungunda 63?* HOW serious is the Swapo Party when they put Petrus Iilonga at 16 and Dr Viscaya Amutenya at 64? Paulus Kapia at 25 and Tommy Nambahu at 47? * CONGRATULATIONS to Mr Piet van der Walt for making it on the Swapo list. May God bless you.Bouquets And Brickbats* VIVA Ohangwena Police! Five well-known armed robbers that escaped lawful custody at the Ohangwena Police cells and fled into Angola were finally re-arrested after four days of escape. A big success and an achievement for the Ohangwena police. The public salutes you! – Happy civilian, Okahao * CITY of Windhoek, why do you show us South African weather on your TV screen? Please stop that, if you do not have anything to display it is better to switch off your TV. We are in Namibia, Windhoek and not in the RSA. * THANK you, Nuusiku (Friday, Sep 4) Women are more beautiful with own hair! With wigs, other hair plaited in, relaxed/straightened hair, they look like ghosts! * HI Mr Coach of the Brave Warriors, I learned in all my football days that the best way to defend is to attack. You will never create many attacking possibilities if you are too defensive and in fact I don’t see one reason why you had to play the second half defensive in our own Namibia. Be more attacking Mr Brother. Well done any way. God Bless you.
Health Matters* WE, the community, around the Indira Ghandi Health Centre are not happy with the Okahao District Hospital coming and burning their waste inside the clinic. Our babies and nearby villagers are suffocated. Why did they not burn far way from the community? What is the duty of the health inspector? Dr Kamwi come and have a look, we breathe poisons.* THESE people who are giving birth at the nurses’ home should move out with their screaming babies! We can’t sleep or study, it is not a place to raise a child! It’s really driving us crazy! The ministry must seriously look into this before a child falls off the balcony. They must remove people with children.* CORRIDOR 13 clinic forces San people to pay for their treatment and as result they just stay away because they don’t have money and we know it. Why should they be forced to pay? The newly appointed sister is insisting that even if they do not have, they can pay later. Why?Education* THANKS to the parent (SMS Sep 4) who is also sick and tired of automatic promotion. That and the transfer system are just sending more failures into unemployment!* MR (Nangolo) Mbumba, what is happening within your ministry? Many learners are not progressing to next grades because they’re failing languages, but most promotions (HODs) in the MoE are given to language teachers, whereby they only serve there for one year (probation period) and then get promoted to principal positions. What’s the logic behind this practice? * A REUNION is anticipated for the Grade 7 class of 1996 of Erundu Secondary School. Former classmates can call or SMS me on 081-444-0815.- Former classmate In And From The Regions* LÃœDERITZ Town Council you failed us, sewerage is running everywhere. Our refuse wheelie bins are running over at some places. There’s no electricity. You have an obligation towards us, please wake up and sort out this chaos! – BB, concerned resident * WALVIS Bay residents will never forget the water crisis that NamWater and the Walvis Bay municipality made us to go through in 2009. Let those entities be warned that residents will never again tolerate such a situation. We want a press release to the print media updating us about what the municipality itself has done to pressurise NamWater to find a lasting solution to the matter.* PLEASE! People of Karas Region especially of Keetmanshoop, let’s go and vote with our brains and not our stomachs. Enough is enough because Keetmanshoop looks look like a farm. * I HAVE been a resident of Ongwediva for many years. This town was named one of the clean towns in Namibia, if not the cleanest of all. I pretend to be proud, but I ask myself as to who is responsible for declaring such accolades. Which part of Ongwediva is clean? Is it perhaps the Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue or the Town Council’s plot? Should you go around in town, you will notice garbage dumps as old as Ongwediva itself. In the streets, especially where hedges are part of their fences and where trees have been grown, the pruned branches stay for months without being taken away. The residents pay a monthly garden refuse fee, but the Town Council does not use it to take away the garden refuse. These, in the long run, turn into the dumping places. Is this the qualification for the town to be the cleanest? Come on town councillors, do what you promised to do.* ONDANGWA Town Council! Until when will Omakango villagers suffer without electricity? Do something now please. We want to eat fresh things and watch television.- Sick and tired Lost And Found* ONE grey tabby. Has anyone lost this lovely cat in the vicinity of Eadie Street, Klein Windhoek? At the moment it feels free to eat up all my cat’s pellets.* ANYONE who might have found the ID of Charline Ungara Tjipepa Please contact me at 081-340-3987. General* IF the agreement signed by [President Hifikepunye] Pohamba and India’s Prime Minister to build a nuclear power plant in Namibia becomes reality, we must brace ourselves for disaster. Nuclear power is the most dangerous, unsafe and expensive of all options considering the entire nuclear fuel chain from uranium mining to storing nuclear waste. Namibia should rather utilise its abundance of sun and wind to generate electricity and show the world it can be done. It needs political will to offer Namibians a safe future. * TO the person who is asking if people know what they are doing in the Maq advertisement, you mention that it is washing powder, so what else do you want to know? The idea of advertising is to market their product and that’s why you and me know that Maq is washing powder. That advertisement is unique and contains enough message.- Ronny * LIKE Namibia, Angola should also hold national immunisation campaigns, otherwise Namibia will never be free of childhood illnesses including measles. * QUESTION to NBC TV, I just want to ask this question to the NBC. Why don’t they update us with rugby news or why don’t they provide us with the Tri-nations rugby matches and the Currie Cup matches, even the highlights of the games. If you are able to provide the soccer lovers with the English Premier League, why don’t you also provide us with Tri-nations rugby games and the ABSA Currie Cup rugby games. Please do something. Sporting* (ALBERTUS) Aochamub’s criticism of other corporate soccer sponsors was in bad taste. The more companies that get involved in sponsoring the game the better for the nation’s soccer development. Football is a national asset and is not there merely for MTC to gain publicity. Labour Issues* GOVERNMENT must act seriously and fairly particularly with regard to the remuneration gap between and principals. I personally think this is an intolerable and unacceptable difference and needs immediate rectification. * LET it be fair, about the NDF’s recruitment. The Government should recruit taking both sides, not only struggle kids, or are the only ones who are going to vote and benefit the country?- BIX A K A JDisconnections* CAN MTC please end their free calls because one can’t make calls after ten. Imagine if there are thieves breaking into the house and you want to call the Police, you can’t because there’s no network. Please MTC.- Jerome ACC Alert* PLEASE Anti-Corruption (Commission) do something. We instructors in the Namibian Defence Force have not been receiving our instructor’s allowance for six months now. Imagine someone changing from civilian life to the military. It’s not an easy job. Please Ministry of Defence, we are tired of your promises.
