Namibian international centre-back Sisqo Haraseb has taken Iraqi club Al-Qasim FC to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) over unpaid wages and breach of contract.

The defender (25), together with his legal representatives, has officially reported the club to Fifa after the club allegedly failed to pay the majority of its players. Several players are now taking similar action against the club, including the Namibian defender.

“My legal team is handling everything. I am currently back home in Namibia with my family. For now, I’m just keeping myself fit by training with local teams as we have Cosafa 2026 coming up,” he says.

The club has since released an official statement on social media, appealing to government officials to help rescue it from its financial struggles, following several players’ complaints to Fifa.

“The interim body of Al-Qasim Club makes an urgent appeal to the governor of Babel, the president of the Council of Babel, members of the Iraqi House of Representatives and members of the governorate council to intervene immediately and rescue Al-Qasim Club from the current crisis after players’ complaints escalated to Fifa. Financial and administrative penalties now threaten the club’s future.

“Al-Qasim Club represents an important sporting institution for the people of the governorate and city, and today it needs real support and a responsible stance from all stakeholders to maintain its stability and continue serving the sporting movement in the Babylon governorate,” the club writes.

Haraseb joined the Iraqi side on 22 January on loan from Botswana’s Mochudi Centre Chiefs FC after impressing during the first half of the Botswana Premier League season, where he featured in every league match without missing a game and attracted interest from clubs abroad.

He was brought in by the Iraqi club to strengthen the club defensively as they were battling relegation and were winless throughout the whole of the first leg of the season.

Al-Qasim has now officially been relegated from the Iraqi premier league, known as the Iraq Stars League, with four matches still left to play.

The club has endured a disastrous campaign, recording 35 games without a single win and collecting only five points from five draws.

“Most of the key players stopped playing because of the unpaid wages, which made things difficult for the team. But I continued showing up for every game despite the situation because I wanted to stay match fit since I am a national team player,” Haraseb says.

Haraseb rose to prominence during the 2024/25 season with Mighty Gunners FC in Namibia, where his impressive league performances earned him a national team call-up and an appearance at the 2025 Cosafa Cup playing all the games, even scoring against Lesotho, before securing a move to Mochudi Centre Chiefs FC after the tournament.
