Minister of justice and labour relations Wise Immanuel will visit the Sinomine Tsumeb smelter to address concerns over its suspended separation programme and labour practices.
Following his directive for the immediate suspension of Sinomine Tsumeb Smelter’s voluntary separation programme this week, the minister formally notified the company of an upcoming high-level visit on Monday.
“Together with Natangwe Ithete, the deputy prime minister and minister of industries, mines and energy, Immanuel will engage the smelter’s management and employees in a social dialogue next Monday,” reads a statement the ministry released.
The engagement aims to address the programme’s socio-economic implications in the interest of lawful labour practices and growing public concern, the statement says.
