Shitembi aims to lead Chiefs to Namibia Premier League

RUNDU Chiefs starlet Petrus Shitembi is dreaming of top flight football next term and will look to help his side collect the required two points from this weekend’s matches to secure their place in the Namibia Premier League for the first time.

The Rundu based team lead the Northern Stream First Division on 40 points with two matches remaining and need only to win one of their matches this weekend to automatically clinch their promotion to the elite division.Playmaker Shitembi is upbeat about his team’s chances and said they were focused on the job at hand.“We are well prepared for the match on Saturday, because if we win it, we will be in the Premier League and so it is a very important game for all of us. It will be the most important game of the season surely,” said the Brave Warriors midfielder.“If we clinch promotion it will be the first time in the club’s history and for me to be part of such a legacy it will be a dream come true,” he said.Chiefs lost 1-0 at UNAM Ongogo before trouncing Onambula United 5-0 last weekend to edge closer to promotion whilst perennial foes Cuca Tops – in second spot on 36 points – are also still in with a mathematical shot of going through. The log leaders host fifth-placed Touch & Go tomorrow before they engage Cuca Tops in what promises to be a titanic Rundu Derby on Sunday.“If we fail to beat (Touch &) Go then it will mean we have to face Tops with so much pressure and it will surely a test of character again for us, but we are prepared and focused of finishing the job before we face Tops but anything can happened and we are determined to clinch promotion whether we play Tops, (Golden) Bees or (Robber) Chanties,” said Shitembi.Tops need to beat relegation candidate Julinho Sporting tomorrow and then win the derby to get promotion. In others fixtures, Golden Bees visit Tsumeb to face relegation candidate Young Rangers (23 points), while Golden Bees (35) and Chief Santos (34) also still harbour slim promotion hopes in third and fourth place respectively.Ninth-placed Oshakati City (22) are in danger of being relegated for the second season in a row. City, who were relegated from the NPL last season, will go down the second division if they lose and three of the other four clubs in the relegation battle pick up points. Also fighting for survival are Young Rangers, Onambula United (both on 23 points), Golden Bigs (21) and Julinho Sporting (20).
