A SEMINAR on steroid and substance abuse in sport, organised by Lu-Wayne Botes from the Michelle McLean Children’s Trust, was held at Windhoek Gymnasium recently.
The seminar was hosted by South African sports physician Dr Jon Patricios and was attended by high school pupils, teachers and coaches from Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb, Grootfontein and Elnatan. Among the more than 45 people who attended the seminar were members of the Biokinetics Association of Namibia (BAN). The Trust received positive feedback from virtually everyone attending, and Dr Patricios was swamped with questions from coaches, biokineticists and pupils. After the seminar the possibility of setting up a concussions protocol test, which is now standard in all schools in South Africa, was discussed.
