ON the back of two enormous Afrikaans albums, the ‘gentleman’ of South African music is set to kick off a new adventure.
Elvis Blue is excited to announce the first English single off his latest English album. Working with South African Music Award (SAMA)nominated producer, Ewald Jansen Van Rensburg, fans can look forward to a new and refreshing sound with the single, titled ‘The Tide’.
Furthermore, Namibian fans can get a taste of his new music when he performs in Windhoek on Saturday, 18 June.
True to his awardwinning talents, ‘The Tide’ effortlessly reflects the enchanting symbiosis between music and lyrics that this gifted songwriter is known for.
Without a doubt one of the hardest working artists in South Africa – averaging 130 shows a year – Elvis Blue has been on an epic adventure since the release of his last English album, the SAMAawardwinning ‘Journey’ in 2012. Elvis followed this album with two platinum selling albums in his native tongue, the first aptly named ‘Afrikaans’ which won two Ghoema Awards and a SAMA and became the first Afrikaans album to top the iTunes Store chart, an honour he managed on the first day of release in 2014. Not one to rest on his laurels, Elvis followed this with his second Afrikaans album ‘êrens in die middel van nêrens’ and broke the record for the most awards by an artist at the 2016 Ghoema Awards, walking away with a groundbreaking seven awards on the night, including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year.
‘The Tide’ was released on 13 May and made available on iTunes followed by the preorder of the album by 27 May. Elvis speaks with anticipation about this new adventure: “This album has been a long time coming for me. I am very proud of the songs, and I hope that they resonate with everyone listening. ‘The Tide’ describes a feeling I think we’ve all felt before, when you are pushing up against something bigger than yourself.” The full album, ‘Optics’, will drop this Friday.
With an average of 133 live performances a year, two platinum and two gold selling albums and a long list of top 10 hits to his credit, Elvis Blue is reckoned to be one of the most successful artists in South Africa. In 2010, Elvis was the winner of MNet’s SA ‘Idols’ who unselfishly shared half his winnings with runnerup Lloyd Cele. Elvis’ first album released after this achievement today enjoys platinum sales status with sales in excess of 50 000 copies as well as a 2012 SAMA for Best Adult Contemporary Album. He continues to gain acclaim both with audiences and critics as he is recognised for his performing and song writing talents, not just by the local industry, but also internationally.
Elvis will be performing at the Adriaan Engelbrecht Trust Charity Dinner which will take place at Andries du Plessis School hall (Windhoek Afrikaans Private School). The event will start at 18h00 and tickets cost N$900.
