THE Keep a Girl in School Namibia organisation has distributed 100 packs of sanitary pads that were donated by the Office of the First Lady to schoolgirls at the Chairman Mao Zedong High School in Windhoek.
The organisation assists vulnerable school-going girls with sanitary items.
The initiative is driven by the fact that a number of poor Namibian girls are forced to abscond from school during their menstrual cycle as they cannot afford sanitary pads.
The organisation’s Julia Heita said: "As a group of young people we have already started an initiative with meagre resources that assists young women in the country’s informal settlements with sanitary pads.
“Our aim is to expand our initiative to reach other vulnerable groups countrywide and acquire more sanitary items for girls in both informal settlements and rural areas.”
They have thus far donated sanitary items to 11 schools in Windhoek and in the Havana and Mix Settlement informal areas.
