It”;s also not the first time they”;ve worked together to create magic.
The Hollywoodbets Durban July Handicap, known colloquially as the “;Durban July”;, is a prestigious South African thoroughbred horse race.
It is held annually on the first Saturday of July at Greyville Racecourse in KwaZulu-Natal.
The event is a massive one on the southern African social calendar, attended by many big names.
Truthfully, we can”;t tell you any more about the horses than that one named Sparkling Water with jockey S”;manga “;Bling”; Khumalo won the whole thing.
But boy, were we ready to see every single outfit worn by media personalities who were among the spectators.
The theme for this year was “;Show Me the Honey”;, and Scholtz delivered in many ways.
The event is generally known for its dramatic drapings and accessories, but Nkosi absolutely stood out and stunned in her striking golden ensemble.
The dress has a low neckline emblazoned with crystal-esque ornaments that give the vibrant colour an almost ombré finish.
The tight bodice perfectly hugged the actress”; figure, before giving way to cascading waves that surrounded her and swayed elegantly with her strut.
She even had a dark-toned bow that sort of resembled wings on the back of the dress to fully signal her existence as the queen bee.
The concept of the gown is an interpretation of the event”;s theme.
“Initially we wanted to portray the process of the honey being made: the flower, the nectar, and then Jessica emerging as the “;honey”;. The original concept proved to be impractical and developed into her being the queen of “;bringing the honey”;,” Scholtz says.
He says because she is golden and her presence is powerful and rewarding, how the dress ended up looking worked well on the Mzani Magic series “;The Queen”; actress.
The frock was well received.
Posts on social media mostly showed praise for the look and many agreed she manifested the theme quite well.
In the media, a few outlets mentioned her attendance, while GQ South Africa included Nkosi and the dress on their list titled “;All the fashionable women we spotted at Durban July 2022″;.
“The reactions to our dress were received with mixed emotions as can be noted on social media, but the overwhelming feeling was that it was a success,” he says.
“I definitely think Jessica and I achieved our end goal with the dress – we showed them the honey.”
By now we”;ve established that when it comes to bringing the heat, Scholtz can”;t miss, and through it all he tries to stay humble in his pursuit of excellence and does not let something like this go to his head.
“I focus more on the person I deal with rather than who they are, and it was so easy to work with Jessica. I am incredibly grateful for all the opportunities I”;m blessed with and take it all in my stride,” he says.
This does not mean the job does not come without challenges.
Scholtz recently posted a video to TikTok, airing his grievances over what he deemed “disrespectful clients”.
In the clip, which has received close to 40 000 views, Scholtz made it clear he was not one to be pushed around, and that he could not work with someone who felt entitled to his entire existence because they had paid him.
“There is absolutely no way I”;m going to treat you differently than anyone else. You”;re going to get the same service as everyone else,” he says.
Scholtz has never been shy to defend himself or speak up.
This familiarity with the love and the hate that come with performing in a public arena must be why he has such a calm demeanor when he speaks about his work and his seamless participation in one of South Africa”;s biggest fashion events.
The look fitted right in. Nkosi looked regal and she stood out no doubt, but delivered in keeping with the theme.
Scholtz says there were some hits and misses among other attendees.
“I think everyone interpreted the theme to the best of their knowledge. It was definitely not an easy concept to grasp,” he says, adding there were some notable standout designs that caught his eye.
