Rundu urban councillor calls for stronger monitoring, supervision of national projects

Rundu urban councillor Viktoria Kauma has urged fellow government members to monitor and supervise projects like the National Youth Service properly, a responsibility she says lies with the regional government.

Kauma made this call during a delegation accompanying education minister Sanet Steenkamp’s in the Kavango East region on Friday.

She argued that the cabinet must empower regional governments with the authority to monitor and report directly on what’s happening on the ground.

“We have young people ready to serve, but if regions are sidelined, we cannot get real answers from the ground. Since 2016, we’ve been asking why such projects fail to deliver, yet those closest to the people are not involved,” she said.

“Cabinet must give regions full power to monitor and report directly,” she said.

She stressed that unemployment solutions risk failing the very communities they aim to support if there is no active oversight at regional level.

This visit is part of a joint mission to assess and revitalise key agricultural facilities in support of national food security.
