Road networks to expand country wide

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba said government will address the imbalances in infrastructure development.

In his remarks made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrading to bitumen standard of main road 121 between Oshigambo and Eenhana, Ohangwena Region, on Monday, Pohamba said most parts of the country that were neglected will now have access to roads.

He said government has taken deliberate decisions to address this imbalance to ensure modern transport infrastructure is expanded to all parts of the country for the benefit all people.

“At independence, the existing road infrastructure was mainly designed to cater for the military and strategic objectives of the apartheid and colonial regimes. We are making progress in the proces of nation building and the development of our country,” the President said.

Pohamba said people who live along the Oshigambo- Eenhana road, who have been experiencing countless road accidents in the past years will now have access to a road that will facilitate safer transport. The Oshigambo-Eenhana Road will cover a distance of 48 kilometres and will cost N$193 million.

The road is also expected to improve accessibility to vital centres in the Ohangwena and Oshikoto regions.

Many major road construction projects have been completed over the past few months, while others are still underway.

“Our railways and roads are critical to the socio-economic development of our country.

“It is for this reason that our government will continue investing in the construction and upgrading of these important national assets,” Pohamba said.
