Rhino conservation campaign launched

Pupkewitz Toyota has launched the ‘Save a Rhino’ campaign to raise awareness and support efforts to protect Namibia’s rhino population.

Brand manager Shawapala Kandjabanga at Pupkewitz Toyota on Wednesday said the campaign’s main event is a community night cycling race, scheduled for 7 to 8 November at the Pupkewitz Toyota showroom in Windhoek.

The two-kilometre route will open at 20h00 on Friday and run until 08h00 on Saturday.

Entry fees are N$200 for solo riders, N$800 for social teams of four, and N$5 000 for corporate teams of four.

Children under 15 can participate for free, while those aged 16 and above must register online. A maximum of 200 participants will be accepted.

He said safety measures will include Namibian Police patrols, marshals along the course and event logistics. The venue will also feature food vendors, a coffee bar and a beer tent.

Number collection is set for 6 November from 16h00 to 18h30.

“Our goal is to unite communities, raise vital awareness, and inspire people to cycle as many laps as possible in support of protecting our rhinos,” Kandjabanga said.

He added that no official race winners will be announced.

“Every participant will be celebrated as a winner,” he said, noting that lucky draws would be part of the event.

The campaign also includes partnerships with Wilderness and Children in the Wilderness to support rhino conservation education in schools within rhino-range areas.

Kandjabanga said the company is inviting the public to “participate, donate and show support” to strengthen conservation initiatives.
