Rebuilding the ‘Walls of Jericho’

AFTER a notable three year absence from the music industry, hip hop musician Jericho is back in the music game with his fifth album dropping no later than July.

“The album is already 99% done. We are just finalising the mixing and mastering, ” Jericho told .

The ‘I Still Love You’ singer, who cemented himself in the Namibian music industry as one of its most gifted lyricists, says his upcoming album titled ‘Walls of Jericho’ can be described as an honest album in which he crosses all barriers to deliver a lyrically rich album.

“The album is very personal. Just like the Bible story, the walls of Jericho were destroyed by music, I am back rebuilding myself both personally and as a musician. ”

The multiple Namibia Annual Music Awards winner, including the Best Male Artist of the Year in 2011, Jericho says that his music is still about uplifting those who feel like they are down and out. He added that his music was always about uplifting and encouraging those who listen to it.

When asked why it took him three years to get back into the music game, Jericho said that he needed to go on a journey of self realisation and soul searching. There are things he needed to get right on a personal level and simply, he needed to refocus before he could get back into music. He admitted that the lyrical content was highly inspired by the journey he had been on during his three year absence from the limelight.

“I want people who listen to this album to walk away encouraged that, just like me, you can always make it back up again. ”

Having relocated to the coastal town of Walvis Bay, Jericho – who launched his first single off the new album on Wednesday – says he will be based at the coast and although he does not have any plans for tours or performances yet, he is working on shooting a number of videos for the new album.

Admitting that he has not paid much attention to what has been going on the industry during his absence, Jericho says he wants to bring back the feel of real music, something he feels is lacking in the industry.

Making reference to past negative media reports about him, Jericho hopes his past will not continue to haunt him in the media, but that focus will be put on his new music and the direction he is working towards for a great future.

“We need to progress together in a positive way, it is the only way we will take Namibian music outside the country where it is destined to go, ” Jericho said.

For the 14 track album, Jericho featured the likes of Ponti, Exit and Sunny Boy. He teamed up with Ponti again on production as well as DJ Dozza and Elvo.
