The Oshikoto leg of the Real Madrid Foundation Football Clinic was officially launched at Omuthiya on Monday, bringing together young footballers, coaches, educators and community stakeholders in a celebration of youth development through sport.
The five-day clinic, running from Monday to Friday, aims to equip young participants with football skills while instilling important values such as discipline, teamwork, respect and leadership.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture deputy director for lifelong learning, youth, sport, arts and culture Hilma Nangolo highlighted the broader impact of sport on young people’s development.
Nangolo said pupils participating in the clinic would gain valuable life skills that extend beyond the football field and into the classroom.
“The discipline, teamwork and respect that pupils acquire through sport can positively influence their academic performance. These values help pupils work effectively with others, listen to their teachers and adhere to school rules,” she said.
She added that the football clinic aligns with the ministry’s commitment to developing well-rounded, confident and disciplined young people through a combination of sport and education.
In his welcoming remarks, Omuthiya mayor Wilbard Anyemba expressed pride in hosting the prestigious programme, describing it as an inspiring initiative that empowers youth through sport.
“Football is more than just a game. It teaches discipline, teamwork, respect, perseverance and leadership-values that help shape responsible and successful citizens,” Anyemba said.
He said the clinic provides participants with an opportunity not only to improve their football abilities but also to learn essential life skills that will benefit them both on and off the field.
Anyemba commended the Real Madrid Foundation and its partners for investing in Namibia’s youth and promoting education, social inclusion and personal growth through sport.
He encouraged participants to make full use of the opportunity by listening to their coaches, working hard and supporting one another throughout the programme.
