From beyond the grave, troubled hip-hop artist Kanibal, who took his own life a fortnight ago, is toasting his ‘day ones’ and the ‘real ones’ who pulled him up and made him a better person.
Kanibal composed his final song, ‘Pull Me Up’, released by producer Chris Wayne last Friday, which features protégé and local songbird Doris Eiman.
“Where would I be without the magic of your kindness and all the memories behind us? You stuck with me and I know it was not easy but you kept believing in me. I know I can’t repay you but I will always be there for you,” he sings one last time.
Kani, who went through a dark time before his tragic death, also pays tribute to a friend for whom he would have done anything, and whose faith in him meant everything.
“Maybe if I can impress you, then I think I can make it. I am proud of myself when you are proud of me.”
To date the song has collected only 155 likes. Wayne attributes this to the fact that the song was not well marketed, due to time and circumstances.
“So not everyone knows about the song but it is really good. Kani sounds very different and unique. I believe it was the start of big things,” he says.
Eiman, who spent some of the final moments in the studio with Kanibal, told unWrap.online that Kani was excited to be a part of this project and was always there with encouragement and kind words to get her going and reassure her of his faith in her.
“Kani was someone who showed a personal interest in my growth as an artist. He was particularly supportive during a time when I was experiencing difficulty as an artist. He was a free-spirited and dedicated person. His talent was undeniable. I was extremely lucky to have worked with him and learned so much from his great work ethic. He was a formidable human being and his legacy will live on though his music and the lives he has impacted.”
