Bank Windhoek says its new 13-storey headquarters, Capricorn-on-Main, has received compliance certification and is expected to become operational in September.
It marks a milestone in the renewal of Windhoek’s Central Business District (CBD), the bank notes in a media statement issued on Tuesday.
“The building, located at the corner of Independence Avenue and Kasino Street, represents one of the notable private-sector investments in the CBD in recent years and has contributed to Namibia’s construction sector and local economic activity,” it says.
“With a significant investment into the Namibian economy, the building project created direct employment opportunities for more than 200 people during construction. It supported a wider network of local contractors, suppliers and service providers,” it adds.
Bank Windhoek managing director James Chapman says the development demonstrates confidence in Namibia’s future and the bank’s commitment to the revitalisation of the CBD.
“Capricorn-on-Main is a statement of belief in the heart of Windhoek. It reflects our commitment to our people, customers, local businesses and the continued revitalisation of the CBD,” Chapman says.
He says the development had already contributed to employment and local enterprise and would continue to bring new activity to the city centre.
The bank further adds that Capricorn-on-Main is expected to accommodate about 350 employees and will bring several teams together in a modern workplace equipped with customer facilities, boardrooms, flexible workspaces, meeting areas, a canteen, coffee bar and retail services.
“The building is expected to bring increased daily activity, stronger foot traffic and renewed vibrancy to the area as employees, customers, service providers and visitors move through the precinct,” the statement reads.
It says the relocation of Bank Windhoek’s main branch business banking customer services to the new premises is expected to enhance the banking experience while retaining the bank’s presence in the city centre.
“The development is also aligned with a broader vision of creating positive change beyond the workplace. Capricorn-on-Main forms part of a wider commitment to strengthening the CBD as a place of work, service, connection, culture and community,” the statement concludes.
