AMBASSADOR Eddie Shimwetheleni Amkongo, the chairperson of the Public Service Commission, has retired after serving two five-year terms.
As a career diplomat, Amkongo served in various capacities as Swapo representative and as ambassador in different capitals of the world.
When he returned from exile, he also served in the Office of the President and as secretary to Cabinet from 1989 to 1994, and as the head of the public service of Namibia from 1994 to 1996 before being appointed chairperson of the Public Service Commission in 2006 for a five-year term, which was renewed to run out on 14 February.
In her farewell message yesterday, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said there is no doubt that the management of the commission has improved tremendously.
Wishing Amkongo all the best during his well-earned retirement, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said government will tap into his expertise for years to come.
