The police in the Oshikoto region say they are struggling to identify a juvenile suspect who is an identitical twin in a rape case involving their cousin.
The five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by one of her nine-year-old cousins at Tsintsabis settlement during December last year.
Oshikoto regional commander Theopoline Kalompho-Nashikaku in a crime report on Wednesday said a case has been opened, but the police are facing difficulties in identifying the suspect as he is an identical twin.
Kalompho-Nashikaku said it is not known when exactly the incident occurred, but it was during December while the children had gone from Tsumeb to Tsintsabis for the holiday.
“One of the twins, at an unknown date, during the night undressed the girl and had sexual intercourse with her,” the commander said.
On 29 December, while the children were visiting their grandmother at Elavi village, the girl told her brother about what had happened, and he then informed their grandmother.
“The girl is, however, unable to point out the suspect since they are identical twins,” Kalompho-Nashikaku said.
Police investigations continue.
