PM urges BEE acceleration

PM urges BEE acceleration

PRIME Minister Theo-Ben Gurirab on Tuesday urged the Government not to hesitate in accelerating black economic empowerment and ensure the enactment of a BEE law.

Gurirab was addressing board members of the Regional Tourism Organisation for Southern Africa (RETOSA) in the capital. He said the word “black” should not create uncertainty or a sense of exclusion for others.”We must move on from political mutual re-assurance to heightened commitment towards achieving human dignity and individual security that empower the majority with knowledge, resources and know-how for self-development,” he said. The PM explained that all stakeholders and co-operating partners should be called upon to become smart partners by investing in sustainable development. While the Government’s comprehensive and forward-looking BEE policy refinement is ongoing, various sectors of the economy that have already made a head-start are on course and delivering as expected, he added. He said tenders, modes of procurement, affirmative action loan schemes, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) facilitation, special considerations for women, youth and people living with disabilities are other constructive ways in which BEE initiatives are given visibility and support by the Namibian government.- NampaHe said the word “black” should not create uncertainty or a sense of exclusion for others.”We must move on from political mutual re-assurance to heightened commitment towards achieving human dignity and individual security that empower the majority with knowledge, resources and know-how for self-development,” he said. He said tenders, modes of procurement, affirmative action loan schemes, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) facilitation, special considerations for women, youth and people living with disabilities are other constructive ways in which BEE initiatives are given visibility and support by the Namibian government.- Nampa
