NAMIBIA’S Women’s Super League plans to hold its inaugural awards in Windhoek on Sunday.
According to league coordinator Jacqui Shipanga, the ceremony will be held at the NFA Technical Centre upon completion of the final league match of the season. She said the awards ceremony would reward the hard work of the players and officials. ‘The season was absolutely phenomenal. It’s the best ever we’ve had,’ said Shipanga. ‘We basically just want to reward the players for their effort. Without their contribution we could not have made this possible.’There are five main categories to be contested, including Player of the Season, Top 6 Goal scorers, Most Improved Player of the Year, and Junior Player of the Year. An award for journalist of the year featuring five nominees has also been included in the programme. ‘If you think back to last year there was nothing but with the support from the NFA and Fifa we were able to stage such a successful league, ‘ Shipanga said. ‘We have gone from no structure at all to one of the best in Africa in just one year.
