IN an unusual move welcomed by many, political parties shared the same platform at the house of DTA Vice President Fillemon Moongo in Omaalala village in the Oshana Region on Wednesday to celebrate the country’s 17th Independence Day.
Moongo, the host of the event and the traditional chief of Omaalala village, told a crowd of about 700 that he had invited all political parties to join the celebration at his house. Only Swapo, the CoD and DTA responded, he said. The National Society for Human Rights was represented by its Director, Phil ya Nangoloh, while churches such as ELCIN and the Seventh Adventists, as well as the Islamic faith, were also represented.”I am glad that the main parties have responded and I think this is an excellent way forward in our political sphere,” said Moongo in his welcoming address. He had slaughtered an ox and catered for plenty of food and drinks for the occasion.Moongo told the gathering that despite the policy of national reconciliation, there were signs of hatred, discrimination, blackmailing and other unhealthy practices between political parties, mainly created by some party leaders and senior members.”I think it is high time now for the Namibians to realise these and come together to fight these evils together for a better, peaceful and prosperous Namibia,” Moongo said to loud applause.Only Swapo, the CoD and DTA responded, he said. He had slaughtered an ox and catered for plenty of food and drinks for the occasion.Moongo told the gathering that despite the policy of national reconciliation, there were signs of hatred, discrimination, blackmailing and other unhealthy practices between political parties, mainly created by some party leaders and senior members.”I think it is high time now for the Namibians to realise these and come together to fight these evils together for a better, peaceful and prosperous Namibia,” Moongo said to loud applause.
