Swapo chief whip in the National Assembly Hamunyera Hambyuka says the sitting of parliament on Wednesday would see their focus shift to issues that were not addressed.
He was speaking to Desert FM on Wednesday, ahead of the first sitting of parliament.
“What we are doing or what we are aiming for now is just for us to check, double-check and make sure to see which issues were attended to and which were not,” Hambyuka said.
He said issues that were attended to concluded on a good note. These include reports and recommendations.
Addressing the issue of slow feedback, Hambyuka highlighted that before a bill of some sorts is passed it has to be scrutinised and understood to assess possible loopholes.
“After you make sure all the loopholes are closed, then you pass it. What should happen is just for us to do a follow-up. The same applies with the report or recommendations,” he said.
Hambyuka said coordination is an important aspect of the parliamentary process.
According to him, when a report or recommendation is approved there should be proper communication between the implementer and the individual who receives the report.
He wished sitting members all the best for the first day of this year, which will be the last sitting before the new administration is sworn in.
Hambyuka said he hopes the members are eager and ready to conclude their year.
“And by the 20th of March, we are concluding, that’s the last day for us to be members of parliament, and then we give over to the new members elected to come to the parliament,” he said.
