Overcome Your Challenges

I went to church this past Sunday and boy, was I happy I did. It was so encouraging and inspiring.

Especially the message shared by the preacher, which was striking and relevant. It really drew my attention and got me listening.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone to church and I will admit – that guilty feeling is not cool. Perhaps my mom’s prayers are working…

But what really struck me about the message was the three things highlighted as some of the top reasons many people can’t seem to move forward in their lives.

Funnily enough, I could relate to each and every one of those elements that at some point have and still are a factor in my life, and I believe, in many of yours as well.

We all need to move forward on this journey. We have so much in store for us, but we deprive ourselves of momentum by the choices we make.

The choices we make can determine our future and I believe we need to learn to identify the choices that keep us lagging behind, and learn from them in order to move to the next level.

Fear is a big thing that holds us back. Fear comes from the devil and is created to keep us from growing into the giant beings we were born to be. Interestingly, the pastor mentioned the fact that with life becoming more dangerous on a daily basis, fear tends to be at an all-time high.

This affects the decisions we make, often based on an overly-cautious mind, which thus affects our future.

And while we were created with the ability to do anything we set our minds to, this capability is disabled by the fear so purposefully casted over us by the enemy.

You can do great things says our Creator in his Word. Most of us know these things, but are so low in faith, belief and self-confidence that we settle for hand-outs and accept a life much less than what we were born to have.

Addiction is also one of the three things highlighted by the preacher as a contributor to the lack of progress in many people’s lives.

We are so caught up and trapped by things without which our lives seem impossible. An addiction is anything that you ‘struggle to live without’ or to continue your day without. And unfortunately in most cases, our addictions are usually not a good thing, but damaging to our minds and, in many cases, also our bodies.

The preacher says these addictions are also a way for the enemy to keep us from thriving into the extraordinary human beings we are meant to be.

I could immediately identify my weaknesses in this regard and I hope you can also identify yours.

While it may seem impossible to get rid of that one (or in some people’s cases, more than one) thing, it is in fact very possible to break free from it.

Remember, we were created according to His image, and He is victorious… which means, so are we!

No, it won’t be easy but it is not impossible.

The other thing the preacher mentioned is family, or rather generational curses. I know this is deep. But I am thankful that this is a topic I have been familiar with for quite some time now.

And I can also relate to how this can play a part on our journey.

There is that one thing that seems to be on repetitive spin in your family. Something constant from generation to generation that is not a good thing and keeps you from achieving the ultimate you.

It needs to be broken and separated from.

I could write a book about today’s column. However, let me leave you with the most important words by the preacher.

She said: There is no way you will be successful in any of the above without the help of God.

That addiction, those fears or the family curses that exist in your life cannot be broken in your own strength.

Till next time gents, cheers!
