About 4 700 hectares of land have been affected by the veld fire in the Ongos area.
City of Windhoek spokesperson Lydia Amutenya says preliminary data from the directorate of forestry under the Ministry of Environment and Tourism shows the extent of the damage.
The City of Windhoek firefighters resumed efforts to contain a veld fire burning in the mountainous terrain near Ongos on Wednesday.
The teams returned after strong winds forced them to suspend firefighting operations on Tuesday.
Amutenya says any remaining fire activity in the Ongos area is limited to interior fires, which have been contained and are not spreading.
“The fire in the western section of Augeikas Farm in the Daan Viljoen area has also been extinguished,” she said on Thursday.
However, Amutenya said firefighters spotted a small active fire line moving towards the Daan Viljoen area.
“A firefighting team is working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.”
Amutenya said the municipality will continue monitoring the affected areas.
