THE name of Windhoek’s township ‘Pionierspark’ is registered as such with the Township Board and the Surveyor General, yet it is constantly being called ‘Pioneers Park’ or ‘Pioneerspark’ in the English media (including the City of Windhoek’s own Aloe newsletter).

Fortunately the correct name “Pionierspark” appears on all road signposts leading to that suburb. The names of the townships Hochland Park, Kleine Kuppe, Klein Windhoek, Khomasdal and the suburb Suiderhof are never translated into “Highland Park, Little Hillock, Little Windhoek, Khomas Valley or Southern Court”, respectively.Why only Pionierspark?
