Northern-based film series ‘Omunahambo Wange ‘ has gained the attention of more than a thousand viewers from across the world.
The comedic masterpiece has surprised even its own creators as they did not expect such a positive response.
Jackson Nghinamhito, actor and producer of the series, says the film series was mainly inspired by personal experiences and witness accounts.
“This film was mainly inspired by personal experiences and events we have witnessed. We want to tell stories of our own, stories Hollywood cannot tell. We have so many stories we haven ‘t been told visually,” he says.
“Our objective with ‘Omunahambo Wange ‘ was to establish ourselves as a household brand name. This would allow the series to become a potential platform for organisations to partner with us to advertise their products through the series.
Project manager Martin Kapuka says: “We are hoping to grow the ‘Omunahambo Wange ‘ series so it can influence our audience’s behaviour, and so we can address issues affecting our communities.”
After wrapping up the first season, fans are eagerly waiting season two, which Nghinamhito says will be better than the first.
“I ‘m sure fans can just imagine what we have in store for them. Some of their predictions are true. Season two, in terms of quality and entertainment, is going to be double. We have learnt a lot during the making of season one, and we are positive that this time we are going to deliver better than we ever did.
“This chapter will be interesting because it will be the same story, but narrated from a different perspective,” he says.
The success of the film and the big audience it attracted was unexpected.
Kapuka urges other film-makers to make a break in the industry, saying: “MultiChoice and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation recently launched a call for local film proposals.
“This is an amazing initiative. It’s a huge investment into the Namibian creative industry, and we are asking other organisations, even those outside the film industry, to look into investing into empowerment initiatives.”
‘Omunahambo Wange ‘ is a comedic series about a young man, Daniel Ndjaba Jr, who is entitled to inherited family wealth, yet wants to stay close to Shiliva WokOkongo and sell Shiliva’s other assets to get business capital and get rich.
But beautiful women are Daniel’s downfall.
The series includes issues like borrowing money, hustling, travelling and suffering together.
Education is one of the key issues raised in the series.
