Okongo constituency councillor warns of malaria spike

Okongo constituency councillor Lebeus Shipindo has issued an urgent warning to residents following a surge in malaria cases in the Ohangwena region.

Shipindo on Tuesday revealed that over 2 000 malaria cases and four fatalities have been recorded in the region since late October last year.

“This situation is worrisome,” he said, before urging residents to remain vigilant and take immediate action if they experience symptoms of the disease.

Malaria symptoms include fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting.

“Anyone exhibiting these symptoms must seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital or clinic without delay,” he said.

The councillor also issued a specific call to cattle herders within the Okongo constituency, neighbouring areas and those living along the Namibia-Angola border to remain cautious and prioritise early medical treatment to prevent malaria from spreading.
