LONDON – Nursery paedophile Vanessa George has been jailed indefinitely for sexually assaulting children in her care and swapping pictures of her abuse via the Internet in a case that shocked Britain.
George, a 39-year-old mother of two, worked at Little Ted’s Nursery in Plymouth, which was attended by about 60 children.Judge John Royce said she must serve at least seven years behind bars before being considered for release, and would never be freed if it was deemed she remained a threat.’This case has caused widespread revulsion and incredulity,’ Royce said at Bristol Crown Court, calling George ‘wicked, cold and calculating’.’It has rocked the city of Plymouth but the shockwaves extend much further, perhaps to every nursery school in the country.’You gave parents who entrusted their children to your care every reason to believe they would be safe.’How grossly did you abuse their trust. What you did plumbed new depths of depravity.’George admitted seven sexual assaults on children and six counts of distributing and making indecent pictures of children between September 2008 and June this year. She recorded the acts on her mobile phone.George formed a paedophile ring with IT salesman Colin Blanchard and former prostitute Angela Allen, who have also been convicted. They never met in person but exchanged pictures via email.Blanchard, 38, a father of one, pleaded guilty to 17 child pornography counts and two sexual assaults on children. He also admitted a further charge of possessing extreme pornography. His sentencing has been adjourned as he may face further charges.Mother-of-one Allen, 39, pleaded guilty to four child sex assaults and one count of distributing an indecent image.
