Nujoma was fearless in battle – Negonga

Founding president Sam Nujoma has been described as a leader who never showed fear in the face of a battle.

General Erastus Negonga, a former commander of the army during the liberation struggle, says: “Nujoma was the chief commander of the army and he never showed any discomfort.”

He says Nujoma was the best strategist on attacking the enemy and never relented until the battle was won.

Martin Shali, another army general, says Namibia should be proud of what Nujoma has achieved in building one of the best defence forces.

Shali says Nujoma’s vision for the defence force was to be small, highly mobile and equipped for any battle.

“Today, Namibia’s defence force is a force we must be proud of. For four years when we were deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we never lost a battle,” he says.

Shali says Nujoma was the kind of leader who could bring people from all works of life together for a common cause.
