An international tournament celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cohen Fistball Club took place on Saturday.

Two Bundesliga teams from Germany participated, with NLV Stuttgart-Vaihingen ultimately scooping the trophy.

Category A was divided into two groups. Group A comprised TSV Calw, who won all three of their group matches, and SFC 1 advanced to the semi-finals.

CFC 2 and SKW 1 had to compete in the placement matches for fifth through to eighth place after ending the preliminary round in third and fourth place, respectively.

NLV Stuttgart-Vaihingen dominated group B. With three convincing victories, they secured the group win. The under-18 national team finished second, having defeated the defending champions CFC 1 and SFC 2. CFC 1 and SFC 2 had to compete in the placement matches for fifth to eighth place.

After two high-quality semi-final matches, TSV Calw advanced to the final with a 2-0 victory over the under-18 national team.

Vaihingen also won 2-0 against SFC 1, qualifying for the final. Thus, the final between the two German Bundesliga teams, whose home bases are only 40km apart, was set to take place in Windhoek, 11 000km away.

The high-class final thrilled the approximately 300 spectators in attendance. Calw took an early 1-0 lead. Vaihingen then levelled the score. Calw then won the next set decisively, and after taking a 2-1 lead, the Swabian team needed just one more set to secure the title.

However, Vaihingen came back strongly and won the fourth set convincingly, forcing a fifth set to decide the winner. The exciting match ended in favour of NLV Stuttgart Vaihingen, who secured a 3-2 victory and lifted a trophy on African soil for the first time in their club’s history.

In category B, four teams competed in a round-robin format. SKW 2 ultimately prevailed in the final against CFC 3 with a score of 3-1. The women’s national team finished behind them, having defeated SFC 3 in the third-place match.

In the under-12 category, SKW’s first team emerged victorious. Second place went to their clubmates, SKW B.

Cohen A and B finished third and fourth, respectively.

SKW A also claimed the title in the under-15 category.

CFC A finished second, ahead of SKW B and SFC A, who shared third place.
