Ngurare resigns from public service following Swapo’s election victory

Elijah Ngurare has resigned from his role as deputy executive director in the department of water affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform to pave the way for his transition to parliament.

Ngurare was placed 26th on Swapo’s parliamentary list.

Swapo secured 51 seats in the National Assembly following the recently concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.

Announcing his resignation on social media on Friday, Ngurare said public servants listed on political party parliamentary lists are required to step down once the election results are announced.

“In compliance thereof, and noting that I am on the parliamentary list of the victorious Swapo party, I am, therefore, no longer a deputy executive director of the department of water affairs in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform effective immediately,” he said.

Ngurare expressed gratitude to his supporters and reiterated his commitment to public service.

“To comrades and friends , thank you for your all-weather support all these years, especially during the just-ended campaign. We will not relent nor prevaricate on placing the interest of our people and country above all other considerations.

“And we will provide ironclad support to our president-elect in the execution of her mandate as Head of State of the Republic of Namibia,” Ngurare said.
