The International University of Management (IUM) has launched its 2026 academic year, highlighting new capacity-building programmes in national priority sectors and a record-breaking student population.
The opening ceremony took place at the Dorado Park campus in Windhoek on Monday.
Founder and chairperson of the governing council David Namwandi at the event said students must remain determined and resilient in the face of challenges.
He said today’s world requires self-motivated individuals who are prepared to overcome obstacles and make a meaningful contribution to society.
“There is no ‘zero’ man or woman on Mother Earth – everyone is destined to fill a niche,” Namwandi said.
He said students should not waste the opportunity to pursue higher education, saying an opportunity wasted never returns.
Namwandi said the university is strengthening capacity in key national priority areas.
“Apart from the already developed disciplines, we are currently focusing on building capacity in oil and gas, environmental sciences, water management, health sciences, as well as nuclear energy programmes,” he said.
The founder thanked the government for implementing a subsidised tuition funding model aimed at expanding access to higher education.
Vice chancellor Osmund Mwandemele said the university has grown from one student in 1994 to over 21 000 students in 2026.
