PRESIDENT Hage Geingob on Wednesday announced the appointment of five new high commissioner- and ambassador- designates to represent Namibia abroad.
This is Geingob’s first commissioning of ambassadors and high commissioners as head of state.
Former Namibian ambassador to the United Nations Kaire Mbuende, was appointed the ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
Namibia’s first permanent secretary of foreign affairs Andreas Guibeb has been designated the ambassador to Germany.
Similarly, Monica Nashandi, who was the ambassador to Scandinavian countries and the United Kingdom has been assigned to serve as ambassador to Ethiopia, while former Erongo governor Samuel Nuuyoma is the new ambassador to Brazil and former Walvis Bay mayor Theresia Samaria was appointed Namibia’s high commissioner to Tanzania.
At the same event, it was also announced that Jafet Isaak, former ambassador to Tanzania had been transferred to Egypt.
Geingob urged the ambassadors and high commissioners to be mindful of Namibia’s declaration of war on poverty. He said the appointments were made in consideration of the talents and abilities of the group.
“You are not just going to sit in the offices. We would like to see that you are organising business functions [for potential investors],” said Geingob.
