Nekundi cracks whip on SOEs as new boards appointed

Works and transport minister Veikko Nekundi has directed newly appointed boards of the Roads Contractor Company (RCC), Namibia Civil Aviation Authority and TransNamib Holdings Limited to urgently improve performance, accountability and service delivery.

Speaking in Windhoek on Thursday, Nekundi said the entities play a critical role in infrastructure development, transport connectivity and economic growth.

He instructed the RCC to submit outstanding annual reports without delay and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and profitably.

Nekundi ordered the aviation authority to strengthen outdated surveillance systems, improve aviation oversight, local collection of overflight charges and finalisation of drone regulations.

He said recent plane crashes raise concerns about inspections and licensing standards.

At TransNamib, the minister demanded an immediate end to delays in locomotive remanufacturing and called for accountability over frequent derailments.

He further ordered suspended executives to return to work by 25 May, saying the government will not continue paying executives who remain at home after investigations are completed.

Nekundi also warned that no performance bonuses will be paid for poor or ordinary performance.
The newly appointed RCC board members are Lea Namoloh as chairperson, Richwell Lukonga as deputy chairperson, Linus Hamukoto, Helmut Naweseb and Yvette Hausiku.

The aviation authority board will be chaired by Loide Shaparara, deputised by Martha Hitenanye, alongside Joseph Shipepe, Edward Kafita, John Shimaneni, Edson Edmund Isaaks and Sam Herman Nekaro.

TransNamib’s board will be led by Esther Mcleod, deputised by Gilroy Kasper, with Delila Kalangula, Brian Masule and Asa Romeo Asa serving as members.
