The sixth edition of the Nedbank Citi Dash was launched yesterday, with the organisers saying they aim to break through the 5 000 entrant barrier.
Event organiser Frank Bombosch yesterday said the event, slated for 6 September, has shown significant growth since its launch in 2017.
“The Nedbank Citi Dash continues to grow into one of Namibia’s leading mass participation lifestyle and running events. What started as a city run has evolved into a national platform for health, movement, community connection, and active living.
“Since Cycletec took over the event in 2017, the vision has remained clear: turning Namibia into a running nation,” he said.
“Over the past few years, Namibia has seen a major rise in running participation, with more people becoming active and more running events appearing across the country. The Nedbank Citi Dash wants to continue driving that growth and inspire even more Namibians to get moving,” he said.
Bombosch said the event has grown rapidly over the past few years, from 2 400 participants in 2024 and about 3 000 in 2025, while it is now aiming to break the 5 000 barrier.
“We can only go past 5 000 if there is a huge push and a huge drive, so we decided to also add a 5km and 10km race so we can get more youth and entry-level athletes to participate,” he said.
“The entry fee for all athletes under 18 is only N$50, because we want to make the event accessible to the next generation of runners, and we’re aiming for greater involvement from schools and youth groups. The goal is not only to grow the event, but to grow the future of running in Namibia,” he said.
Bombosch said the event will once again start and finish at Windhoek High School’s Vegkop Stadium, creating a safe space for all participants.
“This has created a more secure race environment, better crowd control and logistics, and a safer experience for the runners and their families.
“There is now also more space for activations, while we will once again have a LiveXpo – a race village packed with exhibitors, vendors, food stalls, and family entertainment,” he said.
Nedbank Namibia managing director Martha Murorua at the launch said the Nedbank Citi Dash has evolved into something larger than a race.
“At Nedbank Namibia we believe wellness is not a once-off decision, and it is not something we simply tick off a list. Wellness is a journey – a continuous, daily commitment to becoming better and more balanced versions of ourselves.
“Since its inception, the Nedbank Citi Dash has grown into one of our flagship events not only in participation, but in impact. What started as a race has evolved into a platform that brings together Namibians, united by a shared commitment to healthier lifestyles and stronger communities,” she said.
Letu Hamhola of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture said the event has become one of Windhoek’s most anticipated mass participation events.
“This year’s theme, ‘We Run This City’, speaks directly to the spirit of this event. It reminds us our streets are not only spaces of movement, but also spaces of possibility.
“For one powerful weekend in September, Windhoek becomes a meeting point for elite athletes, social runners, walkers, families, young people, and first-time participants — all united by one purpose: to embrace a healthier, more active way of life,” he said.
“We commend Nedbank Namibia for continuing to invest in sport, wellness, and community development. This event reflects a clear and meaningful commitment to creating opportunities for people to engage in healthy activity, to build social connection, and to experience the joy of movement in a safe and inclusive environment.
“At a time when healthy communities do not happen by accident, this kind of leadership deserves to be recognised and applauded,” he said.
