NATIONAL rugby coach Danie Vermeulen is happy with his side’s performance after downing Zimbabwe 68-8 in the Confederation of African Cup (CAR) semi-final clash on Saturday.
Vermeulen told Nampa that his team played well and did not foresee any major changes to the team to take on Morocco in the final on October 9. He said the team would be finalized in due course.Vermeulen said he will, however, give attention to the team’s line-outs and scrums. The team currently trains for one hour and 30 minutes each day.Asked about his flyhalf Morne Schreuder’s goalkicking abilities after Schreuder could only succeed with three out of ten attempts, Vemeulen noted that there was nothing he could do as it was up to Schreuder to improve his performance.”I know he can do better then that.He is a very good goalkicker and I can not bring in someone else now,”said the coach. An overwhelmed Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) co-president Dirk Conradie praised Namibia’s players for the excellent performance displayed against Zimbabwe.”They gave their all in the match and their performance was the best in a long time.It was a hard game, although the opponents were weak,” he said.Conradie was also disappointed with Schreuder’s failure to convert successfully.”He should train hard even if it is for five hours per day.It was really an off-day for him,” said Conradie. He noted that it would be a bonus if the national team beat Morocco.Meanwhile, the NRU will hold its first-ever strategic and sponsorship workshop next month in the hope of getting sponsors on board.- NampaHe said the team would be finalized in due course.Vermeulen said he will, however, give attention to the team’s line-outs and scrums. He noted that it would be a bonus if the national team beat Morocco.Meanwhile, the NRU will hold its first-ever strategic and sponsorship workshop next month in the hope of getting sponsors on board.- Nampa
