THE MINISTRY of Environment and Tourism has developed its first park brochures and fact sheets aimed at enriching visitor experience in the country’s national parks.
The materials were launched by Environment and Tourism Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in Windhoek recently.According to the Ministry, 13 brochures and 22 fact sheets provide information on places to visit, facilities and activities in each park that will encourage visitors to increase the length of their stay, while increasing their spending. The brochures and fact sheets will be sent to Namibia’s embassies abroad, and exhibited at international trade and travel shows and travel bureaus, to promote Namibia’s national parks. Nandi-Ndaitwah said the information contained in the brochures and fact sheets are designed to transform a visit to Namibia’s national parks from one of passive observation to one of interactive engagement and appreciation that fosters learning and support for conservation issues. The materials were developed with support from the Game Products Trust Fund, UNDP/Global Environment Facility and the German Development Bank. The tourism sector in Namibia indirectly contributed N$6,6 billion to the country’s economy in 2006, which accounts for 14,2 per cent of GDP and 19 per cent of the jobs in the country.
