Namibia’s first woman president turns 73

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Wednesday celebrated her 73rd birthday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah was born at Onamutai village in the Oshana region in 1952.

A statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday says the nation is celebrating both her birthday and the achievements and milestones of a woman who continues to “inspire Namibia, Africa and the world.”

“Your life’s story embodies the resilience, courage and determination of the Namibian people. Today, we celebrate your unwavering commitment to national development, your visionary leadership and your steadfast dedication to the principles of unity, equality and social justice,” reads the statement.

The Presidency praises Nandi-Ndaitwah for her inclusive leadership, transparency and efforts in promoting good governance and nation-building.

“Your humility, wisdom and motherly care continue to unite Namibians across all walks of life,” says the statement.

The statement adds that her historic election as the first female head of state in Namibia and southern Africa stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for women and girls everywhere.

“We pledge to continue supporting your leadership as we work collectively towards a peaceful, prosperous and united nation,” it says.
