Four Namibian athletes participated at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Columbia from 15 to 19 July.
Rudi Pretorius competed in the boys 400m where he came sixth in his heat and 32nd overall in a time of 48,55 seconds.
Eunika Kanana competed in the girls 3000m where she came 18th overall in a time of 10 minutes 46 seconds.
Vizamuje Ujaha competed in the boys high jump where he came 25th overall with a season’s best height of 2,00 metres.
Nico Horn competed in the boys javelin where he came 29th overall with a distance of 59,16m.
In a recent press release, Athletics Namibia said it was proud to have joined the athletics family and thankful for the opportunity for some of Namibia’s young athletes to test themselves against their peers around the world.
“Despite the tough competition, our athletes participated with pride and nobility. Athletics Namibia believes that the youth competitions are important for the development of our athletes and hopes that they will use the exposure and experience as motivation to work harder and improve themselves for the future,” it said.
“We believe that Namibia has the potential to be amongst the top performing nations at the different levels of athletics competitions, if resources are availed to athletics,” it added.
