Namibia’s women’s team excelled at the Inline Hockey World Championships to finish second in their group and qualify for the World Cup.
After an opening 8-1 defeat to Spain, they notched up impressive victories against India (13-1) and Great Britain (6-1) to finish second in Pool C and qualify for the World Cup for the top-ranked countries.
On Monday, Namibia was far too strong for India, as they pounded the Indian goalie with 58 shots compared to only eight against.
By halftime Namibia were already leading 7-1 and they added another six goals after the break to wrap up a comprehensive victory.
Annemarie Kruger was Namibia’s top scorer with four goals, while Didi Foerster and Anja Friedensdorf scored two each, and Maike Thiem, Svenja Dedig, Daniela Thiem, Danielle Dobberstein and Maike Epler one goal each.
On Tuesday, Namibia beat Great Britain 6-1 to finish second in their group and qualify for the World Cup. Their next match is against the top ranked team in Pool B, the United States.
Namibia’s Junior Men’s team lost 9-1 to Canada on Tuesday, following a 13-3 defeat to the Czech Republic and a 3-3 draw against Columbia on Monday.
Although Canada won by a big margin, the goals where well spread out over the game. The Namibian defence and the goalie, Ruben Bacher, who was making his World Championship debut, prevented many pucks from getting into the goals.
The star of the Namibian team was Ingo Baas who scored their only goal.
