Namibian boxing debuts on SuperSport

PAULUS ‘The Rock’ Ambunda’s IBO Super Bantamweight title defence against Australia’s Jason ‘Nugget’ Cooper will be beamed live via SuperSport, a first for Namibian sport.

The epic event, set for the Ramatex Hall in Windhoek on Saturday, marks SuperSport’s debut of live broadcasting of any sport code in Namibia.

SuperSport will relay the MTC Sunshine Academy’s boxing bonanza to millions of viewers across the world, with live feeds across Africa and Australia.

Other Namibian boxers whose fights will be beamed live in the lead up to the main fight include Jeremiah Nakathila; Walter ‘Executioner’ Kuutondokwa; Immanuel ‘Prince’ Naidjala; Sacky ‘Izinyoka’ Shikukutu and Betuel ‘Tyson’ Ushona.

“Our involvement in this trailblazing event is a prime example of how SuperSport is leading the African sporting renaissance through our commitment to sports development across the continent,” said SuperSport CEO Brandon Foot.

“SuperSport’s investment in this country-specific project extends to the employment of local crews supported by our regional office in Namibia. We would like to thank MTC for their partnership in making this boxing dream a reality,” he added.

The live broadcast will be available on SuperSport Select (DStv Channel 233) and (GOtv Channel 30) at 19h00 on Saturday.

MultiChoice Namibia (MCN) general manager Roger Gertze added: “MCN’s proud contribution to this significant initiative extends beyond broadcasting to the exposure of our exceptional Namibian talent on a global level, local value-addition and collaboration with key sporting stakeholders to promote and advance this popular sport in Namibia.
