Namibia donates 9 million dollars to Cuba

WINDHOEK – Namibia on Thursday donated US$1 million – about N$9,42 million – to Cuba to help with their recovery efforts after the island was pounded by hurricanes Gustav and Ike in August and September.

According to the Cuban News Agency, Namibian Ambassador Claudia Grace Uushona handed over the donation to Cuban Minister for Foreign Investment and Economic Collaboration (MINVEC), Marta Lomas, who received it on behalf of the Cuban government. Uushona expressed sorrow on behalf of the Namibian Government and people for the devastation caused by the two hurricanes. She described the damage as a double blow that added to the hardships and losses caused by the US economic blockade against the island.Uushona also congratulated the Cuban authorities for the effective evacuation and protection of their people, an effort she labelled as “an example for the world”.- NampaUushona expressed sorrow on behalf of the Namibian Government and people for the devastation caused by the two hurricanes. She described the damage as a double blow that added to the hardships and losses caused by the US economic blockade against the island.Uushona also congratulated the Cuban authorities for the effective evacuation and protection of their people, an effort she labelled as “an example for the world”.- Nampa
