Man arrested for allegedly raping pensioner in Kavango West

A man (25) is in police custody for allegedly raping a woman (65) at Sau village in the Kavango West region on Tuesday night.

Police regional commander, commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, confirmed the suspect’s arrest on Wednesday.

Sakuwa-Neo further said preliminary information revealed that the woman and suspect were coming from a shebeen, and upon arrival at a certain house, she was offered accommodation to rest.

The suspect is allegedly the boyfriend of the woman’s niece.

He is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

In another incident, a man (27) was arrested for reckless and negligent driving on Monday at Kankuzi village in the same region.

Sakuwa-Neo said the incident occurred around 20h00 on the Nepara-Nkurenkuru road near Kankuzi village.

It is alleged that the unlicensed driver was driving from Nkurenkuru to Winny village and upon reaching Kankuzi, he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road into the bush, resulting in injuries to the passengers and damage to the vehicle.

The suspect has been arrested.
