Namibia has approved the nomination of the Dâures/Brandberg National Monument area for inscription on the Unesco World Heritage List.
The submission will be made to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on 1 February 2026, information and communication technology minister Emma Theofelus announced last week.
If approved, the site will become Namibia’s third World Heritage Site, after Twyfelfontein (2007) and the Namib Sand Sea (2013).
The Dâures/Brandberg area is Namibia’s highest mountain, located about 30 km north-west of Uis. It is home to the “White Lady” rock painting and thousands of San rock art sites.
The area contains both rock engravings and paintings, with more than 120 archaeological sites recorded.
