During a working visit to Lusaka on Thursday, president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah discussed measures to improve the efficiency of trade between Namibia and Zambia with Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema.
A statement by the Presidency states that talks between the two leaders “underlined human-centred actions, focusing on the urgent implementation of joint investments in common infrastructure, including energy, roads, and ports to facilitate trade and the movement of goods and services to grow the economies in both countries and to create jobs”.
Among the issues touched on was the strategic importance of the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor.
Officials from both nations were directed to resolve bottlenecks quickly when they occur.
The two presidents also agreed on the importance of upgrading the shared border, including replacing ageing infrastructure.
“To facilitate a transition towards an efficient 24-hour border, technologies needed to be deployed and the Zambian government informed that the Livingstone-Sesheke-Katima Mulilo as a strategic artery for the movement of goods was undergoing upgrades and repairs,” the Presidency said.
Additionally, businesses are encouraged to form joint ventures to explore opportunities in both countries.
