The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor), with its partners ReconAfrica and BW Energy has confirmed finding oil and gas in one of its wells.
Announced on Wednesday, Namcor says there have been successful results from the Kavango West 1X exploration well located at petroleum exploration licence (PEL) 73 onshore Namibia.
“The Kavango West 1X well encountered a gross hydrocarbon section of approximately 400m within the Otavi carbonate formation. Of this, 64 net metres of hydrocarbon pay were confirmed by wireline logs and mud log analysis,” the statement reads.
Namcor’s acting managing director, Maureen Mbuende, says the results demonstrate the vast potential of the Damara Fold Belt.
“We are encouraged by the results from the 1X well and what this represents for Namibia’s oil and gas future,” she says.
