Newly-appointed Africa Chess Federation secretary general Otto Nakapunda says he is ready for the new challenge, and that hard work has already kicked off to transform the organisation.
“We’ve already started and our immediate responsibility is to set up the Africa Chess Federation head office,” he says.
He says the federation has chosen Ethiopia as the country to host its head office.
“The organisation has been operating like a briefcase company, with no credible bank account. We’re excited to take on the challenge. It’s not just transforming Africa but the whole world.
“It’s going to be an interesting chapter and we’re already getting started,” Nakapunda says.
The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) in a statement says it is delighted to extend its sincere congratulations to Nakapunda and Hillary Imbuwa on their appointments to prominent international sporting organisations.

“This executive position is a testament to Nakapunda’s commitment to the expansion of chess on the continent and the acknowledgement of his strategic acumen in sport administration,” the NSC says.
“Concurrently, Imbuwa was appointed as a sport management and administration expert for the International Volleyball Federation.
“His appointment to this global advisory role is a testament to the recognition of Namibian expertise in administrative best practices, management, and sport operations.”
The NSC says these appointments are a source of tremendous national pride and a clear endorsement of the calibre of sport administrators Namibia produces.
“We consider these milestones crucial to our overarching objective of establishing Namibia as a global sporting hub renowned for its exceptional governance and sporting capabilities,” the commission says.
“We are certain that Nakapunda and Imbuwa will contribute exemplary with diligence, integrity, and vision to their respective positions, thereby positively influencing the trajectory of volleyball and chess in Africa and the world.
“On behalf of the entire Namibian sporting community, the commission extends its best wishes to them in their new positions. We anticipate Namibia’s continued expansion in the realm of sport under your guidance.”
