The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) is calling for entries for the 2026 National Agronomy and Horticulture Awards.
According to a statement from the board, registered white maize and mahangu (pearl millet) producers across all production zones are invited to submit their entries before the deadline of 10 June, for a chance to be recognised for their excellence and innovation.
Farmers can compete in four primary production categories: outstanding white maize producer of the year, outstanding mahangu producer of the year, emerging white maize producer of the year and emerging mahangu producer of the year.
“There are also special awards focused on encouraging youth participation and celebrating farming innovation,” says the statement.
These are the outstanding agronomy youth producer of the year and outstanding agronomy innovator producer of the year.
To meet the general baseline requirements, applicants must be registered with the NAB as a surplus or commercial grain producer.
“They must have produced on a minimum of five hectares and must have sold/marketed grain to registered processors or silos,” says the statement.
In addition, applicants must submit expected or actual grain harvest data to the NAB and agree to sell to registered processors and use the official agronomy producers’ application forms.
The annual awards recognise producers, processors, traders and service providers who have made meaningful contributions to the development of Namibia’s crop industry.
This year’s ceremony will be held in the central production zone on 17 September.
