OMAFO – The Mweshipandeka High School from Ongwediva in the Oshana Region scooped the boys’ soccer title of the 2009 annual Kapuka Schools’ Sport Tournament.
The tournament ended at the Namundjebo Sports Ground at Helao Nafidi town in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday.The Mweshipandeka boys’ football team defeated defending champions Ongha Senior Secondary School (SSS) from the Ohangwena Region 2-1.As new champions, the Mweshipandeka boys received a floating trophy and N$2 050, while runners-up Ongha SSS took home N$1 050.The third and fourth prizes of N$300 and N$200 went to the Haimbili Haufiku SSS and the Oshikango Combined School respectively.Although they lost the title to Mweshipandeka High School, Ongha SSS was declared the overall winner of the tournament for winning the tournament’s netball and volleyball contests, and for being the winner for the past two years.The Star Eleven team from Windhoek is the champion of girls’ football, and was awarded the category’s floating trophy forever, for winning it for the third consecutive year.Star Eleven got N$700, while runners-up Oshakati Youth Development walked away with N$400, after suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Star Eleven in the final. – Nampa
