MTC invests N$1.5 million in content creator awards

Telecommunications giant Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has secured naming rights to upcoming content creator awards, pledging N$1.5 million in sponsorship.

MTC spokesperson Erasmus Nekundi announced this on Wednesday.

Set to take place on 6 December at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN), the event aims to recognise outstanding individuals shaping Namibia’s digital content landscape.

Some 20 categories will be awarded, with each winner receiving a cash prize of N$10 000.

In addition to the awards ceremony, MTC’s sponsorship will support a dedicated workshop for aspiring content creators.

The workshop, which is open to the public, will feature expert-led sessions focusing on skills development and strategies for navigating the evolving digital media environment.

“As a digital enabler, we are proud to support creatives who are making social media more than just entertainment, but also a tool for education and impact,” Nekundi said.

Event organiser KP Illest expressed gratitude for MTC’s backing, describing it as a turning point for the initiative.

“What began as a dream is now becoming a reality. With MTC’s support, we can take this platform to new heights,” he said.

The awards aim to celebrate creativity and innovation while contributing to the professionalisation of digital media in Namibia.

MTC has long been a key driver of cultural and creative development in the country, through initiatives such as the Namibian Annual Music Awards and MTC Windhoek Fashion Week.

These platforms have empowered emerging talent, created economic opportunities, and positioned Namibian creatives on the regional stage.
