MTC chairperson Theo Mberirua dies

Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) chairperson Theo Mberirua died in Windhoek on Thursday.

The telecommunications company announced his death on Facebook, saying his leadership brought clarity, steadiness and vision to MTC.

“We offer our sincere condolences to his family and all who were shaped by his guidance. May he rest in eternal peace,” the post reads.

Mberirua was a leader in Namibia’s banking sector, having served as managing director of Standard Bank Namibia and Standard Bank Holdings for over six years.

He holds directorship with companies such as Telecom Namibia, First National Bank, Trustco, the Namibian Institute of Pathology, Omnitel, Plastic Packaging, Liberty Life, Sanlam Unit Trust, the Namibian Ports Authority and Stanlib.

He was appointed as chief executive of Air Namibia in 2020 and was in charge before it closed down in 2021.

He also served as chief executive of NamPost and Telecom Holdings.
